Tiger Time

Tiger Time is Park Avenue’s intervention or enrichment block. This occurs Tuesday-Friday from 2:30pm-3:00pm. Students may rotate to different teachers based on their specific need. During this time teachers are engaging students in targeted activities in Math and ELA. Tiger Time will begin Tuesday, September 8th. If you wish to observe classroom activities during this time please stop by the office and get a badge before entering the building.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-ups is on Hartman Place

When dropping off or picking up your child on Hartman St. please completely pull over to the curb so traffic can continue to flow. Please do not stop on the crosswalk, this endangers our students. Students are only to cross with the crossing guard on duty. Please follow the school zone speed limit.

Thank you

Happy New Year, 2017!

Dear Families,

As we bring in the New Year, we are reminded about the importance of successful student learning.  We appreciate the support you consistently provide to ensure that your student exhibits The Park 6 P’s:

Polite: Saying please, thank you, and demonstrate a caring and respectful attitude toward others.

Prepared: Having all materials and work complete when needed.

Present: Both physically here at school and mentally attending during lessons.

Participate: Actively learning through working with peers, sharing ideas, volunteering, and having an inner

dialogue about concepts and ideas that are presented.

Pride: Being proud of one’s work and school, which is shown by turning in assignments of high quality, having

respect for the school building and the people inside.

Positive Attitude: Knowing that learning can be difficult, but coming to school each day excited to learn and try

 new things.

Holiday Food Drive

Thank you for participating in the December canned food drive for our community. Families donated 1332 cans or dry food products. :)

Ms. Holding’s and  Mrs. Askey’s class won the popcorn party for the most items donated. By Stella Albright, Riley Engle, & Taylor Brown

Interim Testing

At the end of every quarter your child takes an Interim test for Math and English Language Arts.  These computerized tests are rigorous and the purpose of these tests are to identify areas of academic improvement or enrichment that each students needs. Teachers analyze their student data and meet with the Administration to discuss next step actions that will occur to meet student deficits. If you have any questions concerning your students performance on these tests please contact your child’s teacher.  Teachers will be going over this information at Parent Teacher Conferences at the end of this month.

The Leader in Me

We realize our schools should not merely be focused on improving academics, but should provide opportunities for students to develop their full potential in the following areas:

Leadership* Responsibility*Adaptability*Communication*Initiative* Self-Direction*Creativity*Teamwork*Accountability*Problem Solving*Cross-Cultural Skills

We want to get our school community involved so please look for monthly updates on how students are becoming leaders in their classrooms and across campus.

Every Day Counts!

Park Avenue continues to promote the value of learning! Research shows that attendance is one of the most important factors in school success. Our day begins promptly at 8:00 and ends at 3:00pm. Absences and tardiness interrupt the educational process in the classroom. If a student is tardy ten minutes daily, 30 hours of instruction is missed over the course of a school year. Students can copy notes or make up an assignment, but they can never get back what's most important: the discussions, the questions, the explanations by the teacher, and the thinking that makes learning come alive!

We at Park Avenue understand that at times life gets in the way; family emergencies and health maladies never wait until Saturday. Our truancy policy wants to ensure that learning continues when students have to miss school. Please notify our school when your child is absent and arrange for make-up work to be picked up and then completed by your child. We continue to have fewer students absent each month because we all work together!

School success depends on excellent attendance

For your child to get the most out of school, they need to be there-- and on time! Research shows that missing 10 percent or more of school days hurts success. To prevent absenteeism:

  • Stick to a schedule. Maintain routines.
  • Schedule carefully. Make appointments during non-school hours.
  • Seek help when needed. If you family struggles with transportation, childcare or other issues, talk with school staff.

From the Health Office...

Remember if your child has temperature over 100 or is vomiting please keep your child home. Due to so many illnesses going around, we are requiring students to be fever/vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school if they are ill. Tylenol or Motrin can reduce the fever but the child is still ill even with these administered.

Each semester parents can call/email and excuse their child for  five times without a Doctor’s note after this please attain a Doctor’s note to ensure the child’s absence is excused. In extenuating circumstances please call and talk with the Principal, Ms. Fernandez.

Much Thanks!!
