Tiger Time

Tiger Time is Park Avenue’s intervention or enrichment block. This occurs Tuesday-Friday from 2:30pm-3:00pm. Students may rotate to different teachers based on their specific need. During this time teachers are engaging students in targeted activities in Math and ELA. Tiger Time will begin Tuesday, September 8th. If you wish to observe classroom activities during this time please stop by the office and get a badge before entering the building.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-ups is on Hartman Place

When dropping off or picking up your child on Hartman St. please completely pull over to the curb so traffic can continue to flow. Please do not stop on the crosswalk, this endangers our students. Students are only to cross with the crossing guard on duty. Please follow the school zone speed limit.

Thank you

March 7th– 15th the 4th graders will take the Science portion of the Standard Based Assessment.

This is an online assessment which consists of three sections. During this time students must

take three testing units, therefore, students will not be testing everyday but three

times during the testing window. Your child’s teacher will let you know the specific

days and times students will be testing.  Students will be provided free snacks for the days they test.

Please ensure your child has plenty of sleep the night before testing so they can be ready to

go the next day.

SAFETY ALERT—Please drop off your students on Hartman Street before school. There have been several incidences where parents are dropping of students on Navajo Street, in the bus lane, or in the parking lot. This causes congestion with traffic and disrupts the bus flow.  Several students have ran across Navajo unattended, which is a major safety hazard. Many students are crossing the parking lot to get to the cafeteria or the office. This is dangerous as there are often cars coming around the corner that do not see the students. Please, for your students safety, use Hartman Street as the only drop off place.  Thanks!

Please don’t hesitate to call or email  your child’s teacher or the office with questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful month!!

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for heart was a huge success! The students raised over $1,000 for the National Heart Association. Thank you families for your support and students for your hard work for such a great cause!

Box Tops

We collected $602.28  for Box Tops! Thank you to everyone who has collected and turned in Box Tops  for your child’s classrooms.  Please continue to save and turn in your Box Tops for next year. As you can see, every $0.10 adds up! Miss Lemons and Ms. Duke’s won the popcorn party for the most Box Tops donated.

The Leader in Me

We realize our schools should not merely be focused on improving academics, but should provide opportunities for students to develop their full potential in the following areas:

Leadership* Responsibility*Adaptability*Communication*Initiative* Self-Direction*Creativity*Teamwork*Accountability*Problem Solving*Cross-Cultural Skills

We want to get our school community involved so please look for monthly updates on how students are becoming leaders in their classrooms and across campus.

Every Day Counts!

Park Avenue continues to promote the value of learning! Research shows that attendance is one of the most important factors in school success. Our day begins promptly at 8:00 and ends at 3:00pm. Absences and tardiness interrupt the educational process in the classroom. If a student is tardy ten minutes daily, 30 hours of instruction is missed over the course of a school year. Students can copy notes or make up an assignment, but they can never get back what's most important: the discussions, the questions, the explanations by the teacher, and the thinking that makes learning come alive!

We at Park Avenue understand that at times life gets in the way; family emergencies and health maladies never wait until Saturday. Our truancy policy wants to ensure that learning continues when students have to miss school. Please notify our school when your child is absent and arrange for make-up work to be picked up and then completed by your child. We continue to have fewer students absent each month because we all work together!

School success depends on excellent attendance

For your child to get the most out of school, they need to be there-- and on time! Research shows that missing 10 percent or more of school days hurts success. To prevent absenteeism:

  • Stick to a schedule. Maintain routines.
  • Schedule carefully. Make appointments during non-school hours.
  • Seek help when needed. If you family struggles with transportation, childcare or other issues, talk with school staff.

From the Health Office...

Remember if your child has temperature over 100 or is vomiting please keep your child home. Due to so many illnesses going around, we are requiring students to be fever/vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school if they are ill. Tylenol or Motrin can reduce the fever but the child is still ill even with these administered.

Each semester parents can call/email and excuse their child for  five times without a Doctor’s note after this please attain a Doctor’s note to ensure the child’s absence is excused. In extenuating circumstances please call and talk with the Principal, Ms. Fernandez.

Much Thanks!!
